Some Scientific Bases for the Development of Undergraduate Fashion Design Training Programme Based on Comparative Education

Abstract

The Fashion Design programmes at different universities in Vietnam lack the relative consistency because it is not based on in-depth study of job description profiles. Using the method of theoretical research with the approach of comparative education, the article analyzes and compares 25 profiles describing the profession Fashion Design in developed countries provided on websites, combined with the analysis of the compatibility level of the training programmes at 08 prestigious universities in Vietnam compared with the typical tasks in the field of Fashion Design. On that basis, the article discusses the theoretical concepts which orientate the development of training programme in the field of Fashion Design with the identification of 07 typical tasks that must be required for a Fashion Designer. Besides, the article makes recommendations on the necessary learning contents as the initial foundation for the curriculum framework of this field. Different universities can adapt from this basic framework in combination with local business needs and their own education philosophies to develop their own distinctive programme.

Author Biographies

Xuan Tra Nguyen, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Vietnam

Dr. Xuan Tra Nguyen received the Bachelor of Art in Industrial Design at Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Art in 2000. Then he worked as designer in design companies. He became an academic staff in drawing and computer graphic at HCMUTE.
Since 2008 he got Master of Science in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg, Germany.
In 2019 he got PhD in Educational Science at the Dresden University of Technology, Germany. His current work focuses on training of drawing and illustration and doing researches in Education.

Phuong Chi Diep, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Vietnam

Dr. Diep Phương Chi received the B. Eng. from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Vietnam in 2005 and the M.Sc degree. in TVET at Otto-von-Guericke University, Germany in 2008; She earned the PhD in Education at Technical University Dresden, Germany in 2019. Now, she is a lecturer at Institute of Technical Education, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE). She is currently pursuing the pedagogical career with training the pedagogiccal knowledge and skills for pedagogical students at the HCMMUTE as well as for in-service teachers at vocational schools, colleges, universities etc. She also does researches in education with publications in the field of didactics, vocational teacher education, Online teaching etc. She is especially interested in action-oriented teaching and TVET (Technical Vocation Education and Training).
