Abstract

This paper investigates the factors influencing the learning of English listening comprehension skills among language-major students at Ho Chi Minh City Industry and Trade College, aiming to assess the current situation and propose improvement measures. By combining theoretical research with practical surveys and detailed data analysis, the study identifies five main groups of factors affecting students' listening comprehension process. These factors include: language proficiency, represented by students' vocabulary and grammar knowledge; listening strategies, encompassing the techniques and methods students apply when listening; concentration ability, influenced by the learning environment and psychological factors; lecturers' teaching methods, related to instructional approaches and teaching materials; and the learning environment, including classroom facilities and atmosphere. The survey results reveal significant differences based on gender and academic year in how students perceive the impact of these factors. Based on these findings, the author proposes specific support measures to enhance learning outcomes, such as improving teaching methods through the integration of technology and increased interaction, strengthening language proficiency by expanding vocabulary and practicing grammar, and creating a positive and supportive learning environment. These measures aim to help students develop English listening comprehension skills more effectively, meeting the demands of modern education.
