Abstract

The paper presents the results of evaluating the effect of current density on the efficiency of cooling water treatment of condenser of cooling towers in water-cooled chiller system by the electrolysis method. The cooling water of the condenser always contains metal ions Ca2+ and Mg2+ (hard water), which is the cause of the scale formation on the inner surface of tubes of the condenser leads to reduce the efficiency of heat exchange and coefficient of performance(COP) of the water-cooled chiller system. Therefore, it is necessary to treat this cooling water to reduce these metal ions to obtain the required water quality during operation time to increase the heat transfer efficiency of the condenser and improving the system’s COP. In this study, an electrochemical cooling water treatment system was designed and installed on the campus of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education for experiments. The results revealed that the highest efficiency value of the total harness removal is 95% corresponding to the current density value of 80 A/m2. Besides, the effect of current density on the TDS index and pH index also analyzed.
