Abstract

Designing robot which is able to climb stairs and carry a heavy object is one of the most difficult challenges for both legged and wheeled mobile robot. In this research, a wheel stair climbing robot is created to help people carry an object of about 50kg weight. This research is focused on analyzing the capability of climbing mechanisms for going up and down stairs with the large load tolerance while operating in semi-autonomous mode. Through simulations and experiments, the effectiveness of this robot in stairs climbing is verified, which can provide design and analysis foundations for other stair climbing robots.
